Baseball Continues to Post Impressive Run Totals in Route to Victories
The Roughrider baseball team scored 25 runs Monday afternoon in a doubleheader sweep over Salt Lake Community College, 9-8 and 16-6 to improve their overall record to 4-0 on the young season. Due to unplayable field conditions at Roughrider Park, the games were played at Bradshaw Mountain High School for the second consecutive day.
In the opener, Degan Harte got the victory throwing five innings and striking out two. Reza Aleaziz threw the final out for the save.
Offensively, Alexis Olmeda and Willie Calhoun hit home runs and each had 2 runs batted in. Andrew Hermanson, Alexis Cruz and Marco Jaime had two hits apiece.
In the second game, YC put 9 runs on the board in the sixth inning and Hermanson hit a three-run walk-off homerun in the seventh inning for the run-rule victory.
Austin Pashke led the attack going 4 for 4 with a homer and 2 RBI’s. Brody Clifford was 3 for 3 with three runs scored on two doubles. Olmeda was also 3 for 3 with three runs knocked in. Jamie was 2 for 2 with a triple and three RBI’s. Tynan Holmstrom was a perfect 2 for 2 knocking three runs in.
Will Jones threw the final three innings in relief of Jesus Garcia for the victory.
Yavapai will have their Roughrider Park home opener on Saturday, February 7th as they host Arizona Christian University in a noon doubleheader.
Admission will be $3 for adults; $2 for students with ID/Veterans/ Senior Citizens (60 and older); 6 and under are free. YC students and faculty and staff with ID are free.
