Soccer Captures 24th ACCAC Championship With Victory Over Pima

Yavapai College Soccer captured their 24th ACCAC title since 1989 with a dramatic 1-0 overtime victory over Pima Community College in Tucson Saturday evening. As a result, the Roughriders secure home field advantage throughout the NJCAA Region I post-season. The first round of the playoffs begins on Tuesday, October 28th. YC has a bye the for the first round and will host a semi-final match on Thursday, October 30th with the winner advancing to the Region I Championship match on Saturday, November 1st at the home of the highest remaining seed.

With tonight’s shutout, Yavapai broke the all-time ACCAC record posting their 15th shutout of the season. Sophomore keeper Bradley Trella played all 96 minutes in goal for the Roughriders.

Jason Romero got the game winner in the 96th minute while Guillermo Diaz recorded the assist. For Yavapai, it was the 57th all-time win versus the Pima, the most against any school.

Yavapai concludes the regular season this coming week with a road match on Thursday, October 23rd against Glendale Community College beginning at 7:00 PM at Pioneer Park in Peoria. The season finale will be Saturday, October 25th at Mountain Valley Park against Chandler-Gilbert Community College with kick-off scheduled at 6:00 PM.
