Volleyball Wins the Crosstown Battle
The Roughriders won their second match in as many days defeating Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in the 2nd annual Crosstown Battle Against Breast Cancer. Yavapai won by scores of 25-21, 28-26, 23-25, 25-17. The Roughriders improved their record to 9-7 overall and they remain 1-3 in ACCAC competition.
When asked to comment on the match coach Zach Shaver said, “It was not our best offensive match but we served and blocked well which led to most of our points. Getting the win and raising money for the Breast Cancer Center at YRMC were the most important parts of the day.”
Yavapai was led by freshman setter Kayle Park who had all of the team’s assists (31). Kayle also contributed 4 kills (.500 hitting percentage), 7 digs, and 3.5 blocks.
Offensively sophomore middle blocker Kendly Klump led the Roughriders with 14 kills hitting a match high .550. Kendy also chipped in 3.5 blocks. Yavapai’s other sophomore middle blocker, Braxton Fenter, also had a solid match with 6 kills, 4 digs, 3 service aces, and 3 more serves that led to over passes which Kendy Klump pounded for immediate kills.
Yavapai returns the friendly confines of Walraven Gym on Wednesday (7:00 pm) to take on Chandler-Gilbert CC.
