Volleyball Improves With Win Over South Mountain CC
Yavapai continued their winning ways in the friendly confines of Walraven Gym on Saturday with a 3-2 win over South Mountain CC. Yavapai won by score of 19-25, 25-21, 25-10, 16-25, 15-10. The win avenges a loss that that Yavapai suffered at the hands of South Mountain in Phoenix on August 27th.
Yavapai bounced back from a 1st set loss with a 4 point win by hitting .345. The 3rd set was a lopsided 15 point win which South Mountain hit -.240. The Cougars came out with a win or die attitude in set 4 and captured the set with a 9 point differential. The 5th set saw Yavapai jump out to an early 3-0 lead behind the tough serving of freshman setter Kayle Park. Yavapai never let South Mountain get closer than 2 points and finished with a convincing 5 point victory in the 5th set.
Setter Kayle Park accumulated 25 assists, 12 digs, and 7 kills with a hitting percentage of .778. Twin sister Kelsey Park led the Roughriders with 15 kills hitting effectively at .263. Amanda Eno, Paige Hamilton, and Braxton Fenter chipped in with 9, 8, and 7 kills respectively. Brooke Donnelly anchored the defense from the libero position with 11 digs an 2 aces.
Yavapai improves to 6-6 with the victory and will look to better that record as they take on Phoenix College at 5:00 pm in the final match of the Roughrider Invitational.
