Volleyball Holds Innagural Green and Gold Scrimmage with Free Clinic
On Friday August 8th, 2014 Yavapai Volleyball started a new tradition. They held their first ever Green & Gold intra-squad scrimmage which was open to the public. It was estimated that about 75 spectators watched the heated competition between the two teams. The players and staff also held a free clinic prior to the scrimmage for high school and junior high volleyball players who were just a few days away from the start of their season. About 50 athletes from at least 5 different schools took advantage of the free clinic.
When asked about the event Coach Zach Shaver said “I was happy to see the number of participants in the clinic and the energy in Walraven Gym was one of excitement.” It was a wonderful opportunity for our athletes to interact with and give back to our local community. It also gave our freshmen the opportunity to wear the Green & Gold for the first time and learn what that means. I want to especially thank our assistant coach Shawna Ruiz who organized and directed the clinic as well as Dr. Wills (Yavapai College President) who attended the scrimmage during such a busy time of year.”
