Roughrider Soccer Ranked #3 in Pre-Season Poll

The National Junior College Athletic Association has released the 2014 pre-season rankings for Division I men’s soccer and Yavapai College finds themselves in the 3rd position. Since 1990, the Roughriders have been ranked in every weekly poll holding the number one position 75 times. Since 1990, Yavapai has captured seven national championships. Mercer County Community College (NJ) has won the title four times; Tyler Junior College (TX) has won three times; and eight schools have held the cup once.
Yavapai College (535-46-24 all-time) will kick off their 26th season with a conference road match on Thursday, Aug. 23 versus Gateway Community College at Rose Mofford Park in Phoenix starting at 4:30 p.m. The Roughriders home opener will take place on Thursday, Aug. 28 versus Scottsdale Community College at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley. The Prescott opening weekend of matches will feature non-conference opponents the College of the Desert (Calif.) and #11 ranked Dakota County Technical College (Minn.) on Sept. 12-13 at Ken Lindley Field. All home games kick off at 6:00 p.m. The NJCAA National Tournament will take place Nov. 18-23 and will be hosted for the first time by Yavapai College, The City of Prescott and the Town of Prescott Valley. The 2014 Roughriders will feature 21 new players and seven returners including goalkeepers Bradley Trella and Daniel Diaz; defenders Jacob Nelson, Brandon Wallace and David Mack; midfielders Mason Buron and Michael Gallardo. Yavapai will be seeking their 24th conference title and 21st national tournament appearance.
You can meet the 2014 Roughriders at their free youth soccer clinics on Friday, Aug. 8 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley and Saturday, Aug. 9 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott. No registration Is required for boys and girls, ages 5-16. If possible, youngsters should bring their own soccer ball.
