YC Scores 35 Runs In Twinbill Sweep
The Roughrider baseball team scored 35 runs in a doubleheader sweep over Eastern Arizona College Tuesday afternoon, 11-5 and 24-4. Yavapai improves to 19-12 overall and 8-8 in the ACCAC standings. EAC falls to 11-20 on the year and 3-12 in conference play.
In the opener, Yavapai overcame a 3-run deficit with a 9-run fifth inning to secure the victory. Akoni Arriaga led the way offensively going 3 for 4 with three runs scored and one run batted in. Luke Doyle, Cooper Goldby and Andy Verke each had two hits apiece. Brody Clifford, Andrew Hermanson, Austin Paschke, Doyle and Verke each had two RBI’s. Paschke hit his sixth home run of the year.
Will Waterman got the victory throwing 1.1 innings and striking out 3 batters.
In the nightcap, YC broke a 1-1 tie with a 10-run 4th inning to break the game wide open. Yavapai followed up the fourth inning barrage with 6 runs in the fifth inning and 6 runs in the sixth inning. The 24 runs are a season high for the Roughriders.
Yavapai pounded out 20 hits in the game led by Andrew Hermanson who was 5 for 6 with two doubles and four RBI’s. Luke Doyle and JC Pena each had 3 hits. Pena had 4 runs batted in. Austin Paschke hit his second home run of the day and knocked in 5 runs.
In relief, Brandon Matthews got the victory throwing five innings and striking out six.
Yavapai continues conference play on Saturday, March 22nd at Phoenix College. The Bears beat Glendale Community College, 10-1 on Tuesday. Saturday’s twinbill will start at 12:00 PM.
