Riders Pick Up Two Victories
The Roughrider baseball team picked up two victories Saturday over non-conference opponents Northeastern Junior College and Western Nebraska Community College. Yavapai improves their overall record to 17-12 and will resume ACCAC action on Tuesday, March 18th at Eastern Arizona College.
In the opener, Chance Adams picked up his third victory of the season as he pitched six innings striking out 7 opponents. Akoni Arriaga, Brian Schiemann and Brody Clifford each picked up two hits. Andrew Hermanson and JC Pena had two RBI’s a piece.
In the nightcap, YC needed extra innings to get the victory. The Roughrider nine opened up to a 8-1 lead through 5 innings, however, Western Nebraska pushed 5 runs across the plate in their half of the sixth inning and tied the game with 2 runs in the ninth inning. In the bottom of the tenth inning, Yavapai loaded the bases paving the way for a walk-off single by Cooper Goldby for the victory.
Hermanson and Pena each had three hits. Goldby and Logan Pollei was 2 for 4 each and Luke Doyle, Alexis Cruz and Clifford was 2 for 5 with two runs batted in.
Nick Sagendorf threw one perfect inning for the victory.
Tuesday’s doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM. Yavapai will return to Roughrider Park on Tuesday, March 25th entertaining Paradise Valley Community College.
