Grand Slam Knocks Out Riders
The hard-luck Roughrider baseball team fell victim to a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning on Tuesday, handing Scottsdale Community College a 5-3 win at Scottsdale. YC falls to 4-7 overall and remain winless in conference play. SCC improves to 8-4 on the year and 2-2 in ACCAC action.
With Scottsdale trailing by two in the ninth inning, with two outs and the bases loaded, Adam Wolfe took a Kamalu Kamoku offering out of the year for the walk-off victory.
Yavapai College Roughriders was led by Andrew Hermanson’s hitting. Andrew Hermanson went 2-4 and scored one run. He singled in the first inning and doubled in the third inning.
Starting pitcher Stephen Carabajal worked out of seven tricky spots for Yavapai College Roughriders. He pitched six innings and allowed one earned run on five hits. Stephen faced his most difficult moment in the sixth inning.
The top of the second saw YC take an early lead, 1-0. Alexis Cruz doubled to ignite Yavapai College Roughriders’ offense. A groundout by JC Pena then moved Alexis from second to third. Austin Orth singled, scoring Alexis.
Scottsdale answered Yavapai’s top inning with one run of its own in the second.
In the third, Yavapai College Roughriders scored on an RBI single by Austin Paschke, plating Andrew Hermanson. After posting one run in the third, the Riders again scored one in the fifth.
Yavapai takes a break from conference play on Wednesday as they host Thompson Rivers University, Canada. The twinbill will start at 12:00 PM.
