Cougars Bite Riders
The Roughrider baseball team dropped their conference openers on Saturday afternoon at Roughrider Park at the hands of South Mountain Community College, 7-4 and 11-6. YC falls to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in ACCAC action.
In the opener, the Roughriders dropped the seven-inning affair despite outhitting South Mountain ten to five. The Cougars struck first with an opening inning grand slam. YC cut the lead in half with two in their half of the third but that was as close as they would get.
Luke Doyle was 3 for 4 with two doubles for Riders. He singled in the first inning and doubled in the third and fifth innings. Cooper Goldby was 2 for 3 with an RBI.
In the nightcap, the Roughriders jumped on the Cougars early with a four-run 1st inning capped off by a tape measure three-run home run by Austin Paschke. However, South Mountain put five runs on the board in their half of the third inning and added four more runs in fifth inning to put the game out of reach.
Brody Clifford was 2 for 5 with an RBI and Paschke was 1 for 5 with three runs knocked in.
Yavapai continues conference play on Monday, February 17th playing host to Scottsdale Community College in a nine-inning single game beginning at 2:00 PM at Roughrider Park on the Yavapai College campus.
