Baseball Wins Opener, Drops Nightcap

The Roughrider baseball team opened the 2014 season with a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Salt Lake City Community College and fell to the host team, Southern Nevada, 6-1 in the second game of the Kick-Off Classic in Henderson, Nevada.

In the first game, YC scored 2 runs in their half of the ninth inning to secure the victory and Will Jones got the victory as he pitched the final 5 innings to get the win. Chance Adams started the game on the mound and pitched a solid 4 innings allowing a single run. Brock Hartley had two hits including a double and a home run.

Southern Nevada scored 2 runs in the first inning to cruise to the 6-1 victory over the Roughriders. YC got on the board in the third inning on back-to-back doubles by Luke Doyle and Brody Clifford and threatened in the sixth loading the bases with 1 out but failed to push a runner across.

Yavapai returns to action Saturday morning playing Colorado Northwestern at 9:00 AM and will look for payback against the host team in their final game of the weekend at 12:30 PM.
