Softball Season Cancelled

It is with deep regret that the College has made the extremely difficult decision to forfeit its 2014 softball season, which was scheduled to begin Friday, Jan. 31.

The team roster has been reduced to 9 players due to a combination of academic ineligibilities, injuries, family issues, transfers and team rule violations. We do not believe it is right to enter a full season schedule with the minimum number of players, some who are recovering from injuries themselves. Foremost in our thinking is the quality and national prominence of our athletic programs as well as the integrity of the College. In light of this tradition, we believe that this is the right decision.

Athletic Director Brad Clifford met with the team Wednesday afternoon to explain the decision.

This news is being sent to area media, and the College athletic department will hold a news conference on Thursday, January 30, 10 a.m. in the lobby of the Walraven Gym on the Prescott campus to discuss this issue.

Additional information will be provided as developments dictate.
