Former YC Athletic Director and Assistant Basketball Coach Passes

Former YC Assistant Basketball Coach and interim Athletic Director Dave Strack passed away Saturday in Tucson after a bout with pneumonia. He was 90.

Coach Strack had an illustrious coaching career. “Coach” led the University of Michigan basketball team from 1960-68 where he had a record 113-89 record. During his tenure his teams captured three Big Ten titles and led Michigan to the 1965 national championship game. In 1965, he was named the UPI national coach of the year.

Following his stint at the University of Michigan, Coach Strack was named the athletic director at the University of Arizona. He and his wife Ruth Ann retired in Prescott keeping his hand in the basketball arena as a special assistant to then head coach Dolph Carroll. Strack served on an interim basis as the Yavapai College Athletic Director for 6 months in 2000.
