Roughriders Trample Gila Monsters
On a night when Yavapai Volleyball honored local firefighters it took all 5 sets and the cheer of “Hot Shots” after each time out to earn a win over Eastern Arizona. The Roughriders won the first two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-21 but dropped the next two sets by scores of 15-25, and 23-25. The fifth set was as close as could be with both teams having leads but Yavapai came out on top winning 15-13.
Becca Long set the offense effectively with 29 assists and she collected 8 digs. Casey Johnson had a team high 18 kills while hitting .103. Hayley Sturgeon had a team high hitting percentage of .231 with 11 kills on 26 attempts. Jasmine Solley collected a team high 26 digs in the match.
As of tonight the team has collected about $800 in donations that will be contributed to the Granite Mountain Hots Scholarship Fund at Yavapia College.
The Roughriders return to action in Walraven gym for their last match of the season and “Sophomore night” on Friday at 7:00 pm.
