Former Roughrider Headed Back To The World Cup

It’s been a good year for former Yavapai College soccer player Roger Espinoza. After leading Wigan Athletic to their first Football Association Cup title in its 81-year history by beating big-spending and heavily favored Manchester City 1-0 at Wembley Stadium in London, England in May, Espinoza has now led the charge to consecutive World Cup appearances for the Honduras National Team this past Tuesday. The small Central America country will join the United States and thirty other countries in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Espinoza played 50 matches for Yavapai College in 2005 and 2006 before moving on to Ohio State University. The NJCAA Hall of Famer is a midfielder of the Honduras National Team and will be playing in his second World Cup in Brazil next year. He also played for Sporting Kansas City in Major League Soccer from 2008 to 2012.
