Volleyball Improves to 11-2
The Crosstown Battle Against Breast Cancer pitted the Yavapai Roughriders against the Embry-Riddle University Eagles. What a Crosstown battle it turned out to be! The home team Roughriders took the first set 25-19 but lost by scores of 18-25 and 23-25 to fall behind 2 sets to 1. Yavapai was able to find some consistency in the fourth set and won 25-18. Luckily the Roughriders played their best volleyball in the 5th set and came away with a 15-8 victory to clinch the match.
Casey Johnson posted another double / double with 14 kills and 14 digs. Libero Jasmine Solley tallied 29 digs to lead Yavapai. Setter Rebecca Long directed the offense and totaled 51 assists on the night. Hayley Sturgeon was the only other hitter in double digits with 10 kills.
Walraven Gym held a capacity crowd which was balanced in their support of the two Prescott teams. The two programs joined forces to raise awareness about breast cancer and all of the players on both teams worked diligently to sell t-shirts. All of the proceeds from this “Pink” match are being donated to the Yavapai Regional Medical Center Breast Cancer Center. Sponsorship of the event by Barrett Propane, Residence Inn Marriott, Warbirdshirts.com, and the Great Circle Radio Group made the event even more successful and both the Roughriders and Eagles would like to thank these local businesses for their support. Both teams gathered before the match for one united photo. (See below)
The Roughriders put their undefeated conference record (2-0) on the line Wednesday as they travel to Yuma, AZ to take on Arizona Western College, the only other remaining ACCAC team which is still undefeated (4-0).
