Baseball Places Four On All-Region Team

The Roughrider baseball team placed four players on the post-season All-Conference and All-Region teams as voted on by the league coaches Sunday. Krysthian Leal, Tim Arakawa and Drew Turbin were named to the 1st Team All-ACCAC and 1st Team All-NJCAA Region I Division I squads. Stephen Carbajal was voted to the 2nd Team All-ACCAC and the 1st Team All-NJCAA Region I Division I teams.

Leal led the team in batting with a .410 average. The third baseman also led the team and conference in hits (80) and was fourth in the nation in that same category. The Yuma native also had 13 doubles, 3 triples, and 3 home runs and led the team with 60 RBI’s.

Arakawa hit .375 for the year with 11 doubles, 8 triples (tied for league high), 5 home runs and 64 runs scored (team high). Arakawa will be taking his skills to Oklahoma State University next season.

Turbin hit .344 on the year with 7 doubles, 4 triples, 2 home runs and 35 runs batted in. The Dallas Baptist signee also took care of business in the classroom making the Athletic Directors Honor Roll in the Fall semester.

Carbajal, a University of New Mexico transfer, had a solid year hitting .393 with 5 doubles, 3 triples and 2 home runs. Carbajal was also productive from the mound with a 2-1 overall record, 18 strikeouts, 2.55 ERA in 17 innings pitched.

The Roughriders being NJCAA Region I Division I play on Thursday in a best-of-three series with Cochise College in Douglas. The winner will advance to the Championship Series the following weekend at the site of the highest remaining seed.
