Gila Monsters Bite Riders
The Roughrider baseball team dropped the first game of a two-game series to Eastern Arizona College Friday afternoon in Thatcher, 11-7. YC falls to 42-12 on the season and 25-12 in the ACCAC standings. Eastern Arizona improves to 21-33 overall and 10-27 in conference play.
With the loss, Yavapai will be on the road for the first round of the NJCAA Region I Playoffs against an opponent and site yet to be determined.
Things looked good for the Riders after they posted 2 runs in their half of the first inning, however, EAC countered with 3 runs in their half to take the lead. YC scored single runs in the second and third innings and two more in the third.
The Gila Monsters scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead for good and added three more in the eighth to ice the game.
Kyle Toth, Krysthian Leal and Stephen Carbajal each had three hits to pace the offense. Michael Howard took the loss in three innings pitched.
Yavapai concludes the regular season on Saturday, April 27 against these same Gila Monsters in a single nine-inning game. The NJCAA playoffs begin March 2nd with a best of 3 game series. Tomorrow’s game will begin at 12:00 PM.
