Softball Splits With T-Birds

The Roughrider softball team split a doubleheader with Mesa Community College (30-27, 21-23Tuesday afternoon at Bill Vallely Field, 13-2 and 4-7. YC is now 33-16 on the year and 29-13 in the ACCAC.

The Roughrider nine scored runs in each of their four innings for the run-rule shortened game. Aundria Zuniga-Romero was stellar in her five innings pitched to record her 26th victory.

Brandi Heimburg and Sam Wilson each knocked three hits. Heimburg had 2 doubles and 3 runs batted in. Brooke Eifert-Pancamo was 2 for 2 with a home run, 4 RBI’s and 2 runs scored. Val Luera added two hits.

In the nightcap, YC outhit the Thunderbirds but could only muster 4 runs. Sarah Thompson took the loss in the circle giving up six runs in two innings pitched.

Mita Cortez was a perfect 4 for 4. Heimburg and Eifert-Pancamo had two hits.

Yavapai travels to Glendale Community College on Saturday for doubleheader. Earlier in the year, YC swept two games from the Gauchos, 11-2 and 10-2. Saturday’s games will begin at 12:00 PM.
