Baseball Slays The Cougars
The Roughrider baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon over Western Nebraska Community College, 8-6 and 15-6. Yavapai is now 25-5 on the season.
In the opener, Drew Turbin and Krysthian Leal had three hits to pace the Roughrider offense with three hits apiece. Leal knocked in two runs. Tim Arakawa, Austin Murphy and Kyle Toth each each had to two hits.
Michael Howard got his first win of the year, throwing a strong four innings giving up two hits and striking out 2. Kamalu Kamoku got the final two outs for the save.
Yavapai used a 9-run third inning leading to the lopsided victory. Alexis Almeda led the hit barrage going 3 for 3 with a home run, two doubles and four runs batted in. Leal, Howard, Murphy and Chris Burks each had two hits each. Burks knocked in three runs.
Nick Sagendorf got the victory on the mound surrendering two runs on three hits and striking out four.
Yavapai resumes ACCAC action on Saturday hosting Phoenix College. The doubleheader will start at 12:00 PM and will be played at Roughrider Park.
