Roughriders Sweep Gila Monsters
The Roughrider baseball team swept an ACCAC twinbill Tuesday afternoon at Roughrider Park over the Gila Monsters from Eastern Arizona College, 10-4 and 13-3. YC is now 23-5 overall and 9-5 in ACCAC action. EAC falls to 14-19 on the year and 3-13 in conference play.
The Gila Monsters took and early 1-0 lead in the opener but YC responded scoring 10 runs in the next four innings to squash any upset hopes from the opponent.
Aaron Blair led the Rider nine offensively going 3 for 4 with three runs scored. Austin Murphy and Humberto Aranda each had two hits.
Jacob Doyle got the victory on the mound throwing five innings and striking out four.
In the second game, YC pounded 14 hits including three home runs to overwhelm the visitors. Krysthian Leal was a single shy of hitting for the cycle going 3 for 5 with a double, triple and a home run with 4 RBI’s. Tim Arakawa was 2 for 4 with a home run and 4 runs batted in. Blair and Alexis Olmeda each had 2 hits each. Murphy was 1 for 4 with a home run.
Ryan Petersen took the victory in 7 innings pitched. The California native allowed 3 hits and struck out 9 batters.
Yavapai takes a break from conference play by hosting Western Nebraska Community College on Wednesday, March 20th. The doubleheader will start at 12:00 PM.
