Softball Tames Pumas
The Roughrider softball team swept a Thursday doubleheader over Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix, 4-1 and 6-5. Yavapai improves to 17-10 on the year and 13-7 in ACCAC action.
In the opener, YC scored single runs in the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th innings to provide the only offense needed for starting pitcher Aundria Zuniga-Romero. The freshman hurler allowed only 3 hits on the day and struck out 6 en route to her 13th victory of the season.
Offensively, Brandi Heimburg paced the Roughriders with two hits. Sam Wilson was 1 for 1 with two RBI’s and a run scored.
In the second game, Zuniga-Romero got her second victory of the day in relief of starting pitcher Sarah Thompson. YC used a five-run 4th inning to take control of the game.
Offensively, Heimburg was a perfect 4 for 4 with 2 RBI’s. Hannah Hill and Val Luera each had two hits. Brooke Eifert-Pancamo had 2 ribbies.
These same two teams will square off again on Saturday at Bill Vallely Field in Prescott. The first pitch will be thrown at 12:00 PM.
