Luera, Zuniga-Romero Leads Softball To Sweep
The Roughrider softball team swept a weekday doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Bill Vallely Field over the visiting Gauchos from Glendale Community College, 11-2 and 10-2. YC is now15-10 overall and 11-7 in the ACCAC. Glendale falls to 15-13 on the season and 11-11 in conference action.
In the opener, YC pounded out 16 hits, six for extra bases. Valerie Luera provided the big bat leaving the park twice. Hannah Hill was 4 for 4 with a home run. Brandi Heimburg was a perfect 4 for 4 with two doubles. Kasey Oliver, Luera and Brook Eifert-Pancoma each had two hits apiece.
Aundria Zuniga-Romero went the distance from the circle scattering five hits and striking out 3.
In the nightcap, Glendale took an early two run lead, but the Roughrider bats quickly regained the advantage scoring 10 unanswered runs for the run-rule shortened game.
Luera hit her third home run of the day and Heimburg added two more hits to her afternoon.
Zuniga-Romero picked up her second victory of the day giving her 11 for the season.
Weather permitting, Yavapai will play host to South Mountain Community College (9-14, 8-10) on Saturday, March 9th. The twinbill is scheduled to start at 12:00 PM at Bill Vallely Field in Prescott.
