Riders Gain A Road Split

The Roughrider softball team split a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Central Arizona College (8-1, 5-1), 11-4 and 2-3. YC is now 6-5 overall and 2-2 in ACCAC action.

In the opener, broke a 3-3 tie in their top of the fifth inning and tacked on 7 more runs in the final two innings to distance themselves from the Vaqueras.

Brandi Heimburg had three hits including a triple. Jade Yost added two hits with 3 runs batted in. Alma Cortez, Hannah Hill, Sam Wilson and Taylor Riesgo each had two hits a piece.

Aundria Zuniga-Romero threw the complete game for the victory striking out 4 and surrendering 11 hits.

After knocking 14 hits collectively in the first game, YC only managed five hits in the nightcap.

Yavapai held a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning but gave up one run in the sixth to tie the game and the winning run in the seventh.

Heimburg and Maria Micheli each had one hit and one RBI.

Yavapai continues conference road games on Saturday, February 9th at Eastern Arizona College. The first pitch will be thrown at 12:00 PM.
