Softball Splits In Tucson
The Roughrider softball team used some late game heroics to take the first game of a Saturday afternoon doubleheader against #9 Pima Community College, 4-3 and fell in the nightcap, 7-5. YC is now 5-4 overall and 1-1 in ACCAC action.
In the first game, down 3-2 in the top of the sixth inning, Kasey Oliver opened the frame with a single and was advanced to second base on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by Jade Yost. Oliver moved to third on a fielder’s choice by Hannah Hill. YC loaded the bases on a free pass to Val Luera. The tying run crossed the plate on a second consecutive walk to Brooke Eifert-Pancoma. Hill scored the winning run on a fielder’s choice by Aundria Zuniga-Romero.
Despite giving up 11 hits and striking out none, Zuniga-Romero got her fourth victory of the year and aided her cause with the winning run batted in.
Brandi Heimburg continued her hot start going 3 for 4. Oliver was 2 for 4 with 2 runs batted in and Eifert-Pancoma was 1 for 2 with an RBI.
In the late game, with the game tied in the bottom of the sixth inning, YC gave up a two-run homer to Pima and went down without a wimper in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 7-5 loss.
Val Luera had two hits with two runs knocked in. Alma Cortez was 1 for 4 with an RBI.
