Baseball Remains Unbeaten
The Roughrider baseball team pounded the Spartans from Colorado Northwestern Community College Saturday morning in a rain shortened game, 10-1 and used some late game heroics to beat College of Southern Nevada, 5-3 in the nightcap to stay unblemished over the weekend in Las Vegas. YC is now 4-0 on the young season.
In the first game of the day, Peter Lenstrohm got the victory in 4 innings pitched, surrendering the only hit on the day for the opponent and striking out 6.
Aaron Blair had the hot bat going 2 for 2 with 3 runs batted in. Michael Howard was 2 for 5 with 4 RBI’s and 2 runs scored. Tim Arakawa and Chris Burks each added two hits.
In the late game, Yavapai held the lead for seven innings before the Coyotes knotted the score at 3 in their half of the eighth. Michael Howard drove in the winning run in the top of the ninth and Jordan DePonte got the final three outs for the victory.
Krysthian Leal(2 RBI’s) and Aaron Blair each had two hits to lead the team from the plate.
Yavapai returns to the diamond for their home opener on Tuesday February 5th entertaining the Gauchos from Glendale Community College. The single game will start at 2:00 PM.
