Cohen Steps Down

Roughrider volleyball coach Matt Cohen has tendered his resignation in order to accept the position of head volleyball coach at St. Johns River State College in Palatka, FL effective immediately.

Cohen spent six seasons at the helm of the Roughrider spikers compiling an overall record of 124-88 (.585). During his tenure, Cohen coached 15 All-ACCAC players, 8 NJCAA Region I athletes, 5 NJCAA Academic All-Americans, and 1 NJCAA All-American (Haley Schackelford). YC reached the NJCAA Region I play-offs once during his era losing the region title game in 2009 to Eastern Arizona College 0-3 (20-25, 14-25, 19-25).

Cohen takes over a Viking team that finished the 2012 season with a 9-30 overall record and 1-5 in the Mid-Florida Conference. “Matt has done a great job for us here at Yavapai College and we wish him all the best at his next venture,” commented YC Athletic Director Brad Clifford.

An immediate national search will take place to find a replacement for Cohen. Meanwhile, Assistant Coach Mandy Mellencamp will handle the day-to-day operations for the volleyball program.
