Spikers Sweep Matadors

The Roughrider volleyball team swept a doubleheader from Arizona Western College Friday night in Yuma, 3-1 (23-25, 27-25, 25-22, 25-22) and 3-0 (25-10, 25-22, 25-20) to finish the regular season with a 28-7 overall record and a 10-6 mark in the ACCAC. With the victories tonight, the four ACCAC Division I teams (Yavapai, Arizona Western, Eastern Arizona and Central Arizona) conclude the regular season with a 10-6 conference record. At the conference coach’s meeting on Saturday, the tiebreaker will be discussed to determine the two teams that will compete in the Region I title match.

The first match tonight was a continuation of the suspended game from October 5th in Prescott. That match was postponed due to unsafe playing conditions and was rescheduled for tonight prior to the regularly scheduled match between the two teams.

Natalie Fahey led the Riders with 15 kills and 3 blocks. Jen Sadler had 10 kills and Lauren Bevan added 9 kills. Libby Ary had 40 assists and 3 aces. Defensively, Jordan Lopez had 17 digs and Hannah Hill blocked 4.5 shots.

In the nightcap, Bevan had a double double with 11 kills and 11 digs. Sadler had 10 kills and 3 aces and Fahey added 9 kills and 2 blocks. Ary added to her league leading total in assists with 31 and Lopez had 11 digs.

The NJCAA Region I Playoff situation will be determined on Saturday at the end of the season coach’s meetings.
