Spikers Knock Off GCC
The Roughrider volleyball team upset the NJCAA Division II #2 ranked and league leader Glendale Community College on Friday evening in Walraven Gym, 3-1 (25-22, 24-26, 25-17, 25-20). GCC is the third ranked team that YC has knocked off this season. Yavapai is now 17-5 overall and evens their conference mark at 4-4. For the Gauchos, that is their first conference loss on the year and the second time that they have lost to YC this season.
Natalie Fahey paced the lady spikers with 14 kills. Liz Culhane and Lauren Bevan each had 12 kills and the reigning ACCAC Division I Player of the Week, Jen Sadler, added 10 kills. The playmaker, Libby Ary, had a whopping 52 assists on the night. Hannah Hill anchored the defense with 17 digs. Jordan Lopez and Bevan each had 12 digs and Ary added 10 digs. Culhane also had 3.5 blocks.
Yavapai takes a break from conference action to play cross-town rival Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in the annual “Pink Match” in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. The match will be played at ERAU in Prescott and will start at 4:00 PM. Admission is free.
YC returns to league play on Tuesday and Wednesday playing host to Central Arizona College in a two match series. Both events will start at 7:00 PM in Walraven Gym on the campus of Yavapai College in Prescott.
