Baseball Falters In Game One
The Roughrider baseball team squandered a four-run lead to drop the first game of the NJCAA Region I Division Championship Series at the hands of Central Arizona College, 9-6. Both teams return to the diamond tomorrow, Friday, May 11th for game two of the best-of-three game series.
Yavapai began the scoring on the day with a lead off solo home run off the bat of Tim Arakawa. YC added two more runs in the second inning with a two-run homer from Kyle Young.
The Vaqueros countered with two runs in the fifth inning and took the lead in the seventh inning plating three runners. Yavapai tied the score in their half of the seventh inning on an RBI single from Aaron Blair.
Central Arizona took a commanding lead with four runs in their half of the eighth inning. In their half of the ninth inning, YC could only manage a single run in a comeback attempt.
Young was 3 for 5 with three runs batted in. Krysthian Leal and Tyler Urps each added two hits.
Friday’s game will begin at 2:00 PM at Roughrider Park. If YC wins, a deciding game will be played on Saturday at 12:00 PM. The winner of the championship series will advance to the NJCAA West District Finals at the site of the winner of the Region 18 tournament.
