Baseball Title Chase

The Roughrider baseball team fell one game behind league leader Central Arizona College (42-12, 27-9) this afternoon with a doubleheader split against Pima Community College (30-20, 19-15), 2-9 and 12-4. Yavapai is now 36-18 overall and 26-10 in the conference standings.

Pima pitcher Julio Felix held the Roughriders in check in the opener allowing only seven hits. Three of those hits coming off of the bat of Aaron Blair. Tim Arakawa was 2 for 3 with a run scored.

Blair Goldsack (4-2) took the loss on 5 earned runs and six strikeouts.

In the nightcap, The Roughrider bats erupted for 15 hits powered by Jordan Negrini and Jonathan Rodriguez. Negrini was 2 for 4 with a double, a home run and four runs batted in. Rodriguez was 4 for 5 with a home run, three runs scored and 2 runs batted. Blair, Ryan Wagner and Humberto Aranda each had two hits.

Peter Lenstrohm pitch 5.1 innings for his 7th victory of the year.

YC faces a must win situation on Saturday against Eastern Arizona College for a chance at a conference title and home games throughout the region playoffs. Saturday’s doubleheader will start at 12:00 PM at Roughrider Park in Prescott.
