Softball Wins League Title
The Roughrider softball team clinched their second straight and third overall ACCAC regular season championship with a doubleheader sweep over Arizona Western College Saturday in Yuma. With the title YC earns the right to host the NJCAA Region I Division I tournament as the #1 seed. The tournament will be played at Bill Vallely Field on May 4th and 5th.
Yavapai won the first game 6-2. Estela Pinon powered the Roughriders in the first game with her arm and bat. The Tucson native threw all seven innings for her 17 victory of the year and hit a two-run home run to aid her cause. Tessa Fanning and Alexis Lawton also went deep in the victory.
YC took the nightcap 11-6. Amelia Willadsen won the title clincher scattering eight hits and allowing only one earned run. Fanning was 3 for 4 with her second home run of the day. Ashleigh Seipel was 3 for 4 with a double and two runs scored. Miraya Montiel added three hits in for at bats.
The Roughriders travel to Tucson on Tuesday to face the second place team and conference nemesis, Pima Community College. The twinbill will start at 12:00 PM.
