Softball Survives Cougar Attack
The Roughrider softball team outlasted the Cougars from South Mountain Community College on Tuesday in Phoenix, 5-3 and 4-3. Yavapai is now 50-7 overall and maintain a stranglehold on first place in the ACCAC with a 38-4 mark.
In the first game, the reigning ACCAC pitcher of the week, Estela Pinon got the victory throwing a solid complete game striking out seven Cougar hitters.
Pinon aided her cause going 3 for 4 with a run scored. Alexis Lawton was 2 for 4 with a home run and Ashleigh Seipel was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI’s.
Mel Willadsen was stellar from the circle in the nightcap scattering eight hits and surrendering only two earned runs.
Miraya Montiel was 2 for 2 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Pinon and Tessa Fanning each had a hit and a run batted in.
The Roughriders travel to fellow ACCAC Division I opponent Arizona Western College on Saturday, April 21st. In their prior meeting, Yavapai swept a doubleheader from the Matadors, 9-1 and 15-6. Saturday’s contest will start at 12:00 PM.
