Softball Moves Closer To League Title
The Roughrider softball team inched closer to another ACCAC title with a doubleheader sweep Friday afternoon over Chandler/Gilbert Community College, 9-1 and 7-2. Yavapai is now 46-7 overall and 36-4 in conference play.
Estela Pinon got her sixteenth victory of the year with a two-hit, ten strikeout day. The University of Arizona bound Pinon also added a home run to aid her cause. Kat Macias was a perfect 3 for 3 on the game with a home run and 2 RBI’s. Brandi Heimburg, Ashleigh Seipel, Tessa Fanning and Brittany McCray each had two hits.
Amelia Willadsen recorded a season high thirteen strikeouts in the victory and Pinon and Macias each hit their second homers on the day to secure the victory. Alma Cortez, Alexis Lawton, Seipel and Fanning each had two hits a piece.
YC plays at South Mountain Community College on Tuesday, April 17th. Last month the Roughriders beat the Cougars in Prescott, 8-0 and 2-1. Yavapai does not return home until their final regular season outing on April 28th hosting GateWay Community
