YC Beats The Apaches
The Roughrider baseball team swept a pivotal doubleheader on Saturday over fellow Division I foe, Cochise College, 4-3 and 4-1. YC runs their record to 28-14 overall and 19-7 in the ACCAC,
In the opener, Kyle Young led the Riders to the victory with a single and a home run. Matt Smith got it done on the mound on the way to a win. He allowed three runs over 6 2/3 innings. Aaron Blair threw one-third of an inning of scoreless ball to earn the save.
In the nightcap, Jordan Negrini brought home the go-ahead run to give YC the lead in the eighth inning, as the Roughrider nine hung on to beat the Apaches.
With the game scoreless in the eighth inning Negrini came to the plate and singled, bringing home Ty Neuhaus.
Ryan Petersen worked out of six tough situations for the home team. The California native pitched 8 1/3 innings and allowed one earned run on five hits. Blair threw two-thirds of an inning of scoreless ball for his second save of the day.
The Roughriders return to the diamond on Tuesday, April 10th entertaining league leader Central Arizona College. The doubleheader will start at 12:00 PM.
