Baseball Splits With Pumas
The Roughrider baseball team split a doubleheader with the Pumas from Paradise Valley Community College Tuesday afternoon in Phoenix, 2-1 and 3-4. Yavapai is now 26-14 on the year and hold a 17-7 ACCAC mark.
It took late game heroics in the first game for the Roughriders to put away the Pumas. In the bottom of the sixth, Aaron Blair singled in Jordan Negrini to knot the score at 1. Both teams failed to score in the seventh inning forcing the game into extra frames.
In the top of the ninth inning, Kyle Young singled in Tyler Adams, running for Blair who reached on a single, for the go ahead and eventual winning run.
Aaron Blair (2-1) pitched the final two innings in relief of starting pitcher Peter Lenstrohm to get the victory.
Offensively, Blair was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Young was 1 for 4 with the winning run batted in.
In the second game, starting pitcher Matt Southard gave up four runs in the second inning which would be enough to earn the loss.
Tim Arakawa was a perfect 3 for 3 with a run scored. Negrini and Drew Turbin each had two hits a piece.
YC plays host to fellow Division I conference foe Cochise College on Saturday, April 7th. YC swept a doubleheader from the Apaches in February, 3-1 and 7-3. Saturday’s twinbill will begin at 12:00 PM.
