Softball Tames Pumas
The #3 ranked Roughrider softball team declawed the Pumas from Paradise Valley Community College on Saturday at Bill Vallely Field in Prescott sweeping a doubleheader 12-2 and 15-0. Yavapai is now 41-6 on the year ad 29-3 and in first place in the ACCAC.
In the opener, Kat Macias propelled the Roughrider nine from the circle and the plate. Macias threw four innings surrendering four hits and striking out seven. The California native aided her cause going 2 for 3 with four runs batted in. The reigning ACCAC Player of the Week Brandi Heimburg was 2 for 2 with two doubles and two runs scored. Tessa Fanning was 2 for 2 with an RBI and 2runs scored.
In the nightcap, YC didn’t let up tying a season high 15 runs. Estela Pinon got the train rolling with a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning. Mel Willadsen got the shutout victory striking out four and allowing one hit in four innings of play. Ashleigh Seipel was 3 for 4 with two runs batted. Alma Cortez, Heimburg and Brittany McCray each had two hits.
YC entertains fellow ACCAC Division I foe Eastern Arizona College (34-15, 26-6) on Tuesday, April 3rd. Yavapai split a doubleheader with the Gila Monsters in February in Thatcher, 4-5 and 4-2. Tuesday’s twin bill will begin at 12:00 PM.
