Softball Shuts Out Artichokes

After a delayed start, the Roughrider softball team regrouped to sweep an afternoon doubleheader over Scottsdale Community College Tuesday afternoon at Bill Vallely Field, 8-0 and 2-0. YC is now 39-6 overall and 27-3 in the ACCAC standings. YC has not allowed a single run in the past four games.

In the opener, Kat Macias threw a perfect game for her fifth victory of the year. The freshman pitcher struck out seven hitters over five innings.

Offensively, the reigning ACCAC Player of the Week Brandi Heimburg was 2 for 3 with a double, 2 runs scored and an RBI. Ashleigh Seipel was 2 for 2 with three runs batted in. Brittany McCray was 1 for 3 with a homer run and two runs knocked in and Macias was 2 for 3.

Mel Willadsen got her 15th victory of the year throwing a four-hitter and striking out five.

Heimburg was 2 for 3, McCray was 2 for 3 and Sam Wilson was 1 for 3 with a homer and an RBI.

Yavapai plays host to Paradise Valley Community College on Saturday, March 31st. Game time will be at 12:00 PM.
