Riders Upend Artichokes

The #19 ranked Roughrider baseball team beat the upstart Artichokes from Scottsdale Community College (20-10, 9-5) on Tuesday afternoon in Scottsdale 6-3. Yavapai improves on their league leading conference mark to 12-3 and have an overall record of 20-10.

The Artichokes got on the board first with a lone run in the second inning. The Roughriders knotted the score in the fourth inning and took the lead for good in the fifth inning scoring two runs. YC added three more tallies in the sixth inning and Scottsdale finished the scoring on the day with two in their half of the sixth.

Josh Tate was a perfect 3 for 3 from the plate with a run batted in. Tyler Urps, Tim Arakawa and Jonathan Rodriguez each had 2 hits a piece.

Matt Smith got his sixth win of the year throwing seven innings and striking out five batters. Peter Lenstrohm threw the final two innings for his third save of the year.

Yavapai is scheduled to play a non-conference doubleheader against Seminole State College, OK on Friday; however, the games depend on the weather and how quickly the snow from this last snowstorm can melt from Roughrider Park.
