Baseball Splits Games On Thursday
The Roughrider baseball team split two single games on Thursday in Phoenix against Indian Hills Community College and Western Nebraska Community College. YC lost the rematch against Indian Hills 8-2 and beat Western Nebraska in the late game, 11-1. Yavapai is now 18-10 overall.
Against the Falcons, an early Roughrider lead did not last as Indian Hills used 3 runs in the sixth inning and 3 runs in the seventh inning to claim the victory.
Jordan DePonte was the losing pitcher. The Hawaii native threw five and two-thirds innings allowing four runs, 1 earned, and striking out three.
From the plate, Austin O`Such was 2 for 3 with one run scored and Austin Blair was 2 for 4 with an RBI.
Freshman Matt Southard was dominate on the mound in the nightcap throwing seven innings, allowing seven hits and striking out two batters.
The Roughrider offense scored early and often against the Cougars led by Ryan Wagner. The freshman infielder was 3 for 4 with four runs batted in with a home run and a triple. Tyler Urps was 2 for 3 with a double and one run scored. Jonathan Rodriguez and Humberto Aranda were each 2 for 4.
YC continues non-league play on Friday against Lamar Community College and El Paso Community College.
