Riders Sweep Coyotes
The Roughrider softball team won their sixth and seventh consecutive game Tuesday afternoon over Chandler-Gilbert Community College, 6-5 and 13-3. Yavapai is now 25-4 overall and 14-2 in ACCAC action. Chandler-Gilbert falls to 6-14 and 4-12.
Estela Pinon got the victory from the circle pitching six solid innings and striking out 14 opponent batters. Kat Macias threw the final inning to preserve to preserve the win.
Alma Cortez was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI 2. Brandi Heimburg, Pinon and Alexis Lawton each had two hits with a run batted in and Ashleigh Seipel was 2 for 4.
In the late game, Mel Willadsen earned the victory. Cortez remained hot from the plate going 3 for 3 with three runs scored. Seipel was 2 for 3 with a home run, four runs knocked in and two runs scored. Heimburg was 2 for 2 with two RBI’s and three runs scored and Taylor Riesgo was 2 for 4 with three runs scored.
On Saturday, March 3rd Yavapai will play their home opener hosting South Mountain Community College. The games will begin at 12:00 PM and will be played at Bill Vallely Park in Prescott.
