Baseball Sweeps The Apaches

The Roughrider baseball team defeated Cochise College, 3-1 and 7-3, Tuesday afternoon in Douglas to improve to 7-5 overall and 4-0 in ACCAC action. Cochise College is now 9-8 on the year and 2-2 in conference play.

In the first game, Blair Goldsack (2-1) was a workhorse on the mound for YC pitching all seven innings allowing no earned runs, three hits and three walks while striking out four.

Jordan Negrini went 2 for 2 and scored one run on the day and Jonathan Rodriguez was 1 for 3 with a 2-RBI double in the decisive third inning. Meanwhile, Cochise scored their only run in the first inning of the game.

In the second game, YC broke open a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning with a five-run outburst. That would be all that starting pitcher Peter Lenstrohm needed. The Chaparral High School threw eight strong innings to get his first victory of the season. He scattered ten hits and struck out eight Apached hitters.

Austin O`Such ws a perfect 2 for 2 from the plate. Krysthian Leal was 2 for 5 with 3 RBI’s and Tyler Urps had two hits.

YC plays a non-conference home doubleheader tomorrow, Wednesday, February 22nd against the Wolfpack from Thompson Rivers University beginning at 12:00 PM.
