Spikers Drop Finale

The Roughrider volleyball team dropped their final match of the 2011 season 3-2 (25-22, 13-25, 25-22, 16-25, 12-15) to the visiting Matadors from Arizona Western College (11-8, 10-6).

Three points were the most that either led by in the first set. YC took that lead late in the game at 22-19. AWC battled to within one point at 23-22. Yavapai finished the game with kills by MacKenzie Hamilton and LeAnna Lloyd respectively.

The Matadors responded to the first set loss by pounding the lady spikers. With the set tied at 5, AWC went on a 20-8 run to knot the score.

Yavapai came from behind to win the third set. YC tied the game at 18 and went up four on a service ace by Suzanne Morris. With the Riders up 24-22, head coach Matt Cohen called a timeout to slow the opponent momentum. Immediately following the timeout, Lauren Bevan finished the game with a powerful crosscourt kill.

In the deciding game, with the game tied at 5, the Matadors went on a 6-1 run to take control of the set and win the match.

Lauren Bevan led the team with 14 kills. LeAnna Lloyd had 13 kills. Libby Ary had 27 assists and Kayce Youngberg had 17 digs.

YC concludes the season with a 14-16 overall record and a 7-9 conference mark.
