YC Crushes The Bears

The #4 ranked Roughrider soccer team will be hosting their 21st NJCAA Region I Championship match thanks to a convincing 10-0 victory over Phoenix College Wednesday evening in Prescott Valley. The 10 goals ties a team record for most goals scored in a playoff match held by the 1993 Roughriders also in a 10-0 victory against Rockland Community College, NY. With this victory, Yavapai won their 496th (496-39-18) match overall and 95 of those victories have come in the post-season.

Goalkeepers Daniel Sellitti and Augustin Rey combined in goal for the team’s 8th shutout of the season. Yavapai is now 19-0-3 overall and a perfect 40-0-0 in Prescott Valley.

On Saturday, YC will be be seeking their 20th Region I Championship since 1990. The opponent will be long time nemesis Pima Community College, winners over #9 ranked Arizona Western College on Wednesday in Yuma, 2-1. In two meetings this season, Yavapai has beaten the Aztecs 6-3 in Prescott Valley and 2-0 in Tucson. Saturday night’s match will be played at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott and will kick-off at 6:00 PM.
