Bears Bite Spikers

After an emotional and energetic victory Wednesday night over Chandler-Gilbert CC, the YC volleyball team struggled Friday night to recreate that same scenario against Phoenix College (14-6, 8-4) in Phoenix. Yavapai fell in straight sets to the Bears 18-25, 22-25 and 24-26. The Roughriders are now 12-13 overall and 5-6 in ACCAC action. Play-offs are still a possibility with the ladies chasing the second place D-I team Arizona Western who owns a 7-5 league mark. Both teams will square off with each other two more times this season beginning Saturday in Yuma.

Offensively, Lauren Bevan had 9 kills and Jessica Durbin had 22 assists. LeAnna Lloyd led the team with 5 blocks. Head Coach Matt Cohen commented, “We could not find the energy we had at home. Need to find a way to recover and play better tomorrow.”

YC will be in Yuma Saturday for a matinee affair with the Matadors. AWC beat the Riders in Prescott last month in a come from behind 3-2 victory. The match will begin at 2:00 PM.
