YC Into First Place
The Roughrider soccer team scored four first half goals Saturday night en route to a 6-3 victory over Pima Community College in Prescott Valley. With the victory, YC moves into first place in the ACCAC with a 3-0-1 (10 points) record. Pima suffered their first loss of the season falling to 3-1-0 (9 points).It also marks the 48th victory over the Aztecs, the most wins against any Yavapai opponent.
Yavapai began the scoring in the 2nd minute of the match with Kyle Morris finding the back of the net on a pass from Christopher Luu. Julien Dragomir scored in the 31st minute on a nifty pass from Beto Godinez. Two minutes later Marius Stensby found a streaking Stuart Bryant who deposited it in the upper right corner of the goal. To finish the scoring in the first half, Ryan Beggs headed a corner kick into the net off the foot of Bryant.
Pima picked up the intensity after intermission and scored two quick goals at the 50th and 64th minutes. Morris scored his second goal of the game on an assist from Luu in the 79th minute. One minute later, the Aztecs responded with a goal of their own. Donovan Rico iced the game scoring from the left side unassisted in the 83rd minute.
At the Amphitheater in Prescott Valley, Yavapai is a perfect 34-0-0 all-time.
The Roughriders take to the road for their next contest on Tuesday, September 6th at Phoenix College. In two meetings last season, Yavapai won both games by the score of 1-0. The match will begin at 7:00 PM.
