Soccer Ties

With the temperature hovering at the 111 degree mark, the Roughrider soccer team battled to a 2-2 double overtime tie with Scottsdale Community College Saturday afternoon in Scottsdale. It was the second double overtime match in two games for the Artichokes who are now 0-1-1. With the tie, Yavapai is now 1-0-1.

For the second straight game, the opponent scored first as Scottsdale found the back of the net in the 31st minute of the match. However, twenty-eight seconds later the Roughriders tied the score with Christopher Luu scoring on a pass from Kyle Morris.

The score remained tied until YC broke through in the 65th minute as Stuart Bryant knocked it in assisted by Gouedan Halley but Scottsdale knotted the game in the 80th minute to send the match into extra periods. In both overtimes, YC outshot the opponent 7-0 with one ball caroming off the post. For the game, the Roughriders outshot the Artichokes 23-10 and out corner kicked them 13-2. Yavapai all-time record in matches played in over one-hundred degrees temperatures now stands at 45-4-2.

Yavapai’s next match will be against conference foe Arizona Western College. The match will be played at Ken Lindley Field on Tuesday, August 30th with kick-off slated for 6:00 PM.
