Roughriders In MLB Draft

Kenny Giles was the 241st player selected and the first Roughrider chosen in the 2011 MLB Draft Tuesday by the Philadelphia Phillies. In 2011, Giles threw 38 innings for the Roughriders compiling a 1-1 overall record and recording 2 saves. The Albuquerque native was 5th in the NJCAA with a 1.18 ERA and was 1st nationally with 1.76 strikeouts per inning.

Freshman Robbie Ingram was selected in the 45th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates. On the season the Flagstaff native was 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA striking out 30 batters.

Former Roughrider and current University of Utah left-handed pitcher Rick Anton (2007-09) was selected in the 8th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his two years at Yavapai, the Prescott High School product had a 22-8 overall record, struck out 189 batters and had an ERA of 2.12.

Roughrider recruit, pitcher Nick Valenza from Horizon High School in Phoenix was chosen in the 18th round by the Seattle Mariners. For his efforts this past season, Valenza was a 2nd Team All-5A State selection.

Roughrider recruit, Nevin Wilson, a left handed pitcher from Chaparral High School was drafted in the 44th round by the Philadelphia Phillies.

From the ACCAC, the Chicago White Sox with the 47th overall pick chose conference player of the year, Keenyn Walker from Central Arizona College. In the 14th round, Philadelphia selected Trey Ford from South Mountain Community College; Pittsburgh chose Eric Wooten from Central Arizona College in the 15th round; Houston chose Scott Zuloaga from Scottsdale Community College in the 16th round; Kansas City chose Lance Harper from Scottsdale in the 23rd round; Joshua Alvarado from Gateway Community College went in the 25th round to the Los Angeles Angels: Mike Reynolds from Paradise Valley Community College was chosen by the Baltimore Orioles in the 30th round; Zach Dando from Central Arizona College was taken in the 32nd round by the Houston Astros; David Jagoditsh from Pima Community College was chosen in the 32nd round by the Pittsburgh Pirates; the Kansas City Royals chose Travis Lane from Central Arizona College in the 42nd round; Max Rossiter from Central Arizona College was taken in the 46th round by the Tampa Bay Rays; the Cincinnati Reds chose Jon Pellant from Chandler/Gilbert Community College in the 47th round; the Arizona Diamondbacks took Jacob Williams from South Mountain Community College in the 49th round.
