On day two of the national tournament, the Roughrider softball team beat McLennan Community College, TX, 8-1 and Tallahassee Community College, 2-0 to advance to their third game of the day to face #2 Salt Lake City Community College.
In the first game, Yavapai trailed McLennan 1-0 in the fifth inning before scoring 7 runs in their half of the fifth to seize control of the game. Danielle Muniz, Estela Pinon and Vanessa House hit home runs in the decisive inning.
The victory set up a meeting with #5 seed Tallahassee. It was a pitcher’s duel for six innings until Pinon fetched home the go ahead run and House chased home another for insurance.
YC now faces #2 Salt Lake City Community College. The winner jumps straight to the Championship game on Saturday and the loser must come up through the loser’s bracket for a shot at the title.
Both teams faced each other earlier in the season with Yavapai winning 2-1. The game will begin at 6:00 PM Arizona time.
