Baseball Falls To Lamar; Will Face Central Arizona
The Roughrider baseball team dropped their first game of the NJCAA Western District Playoffs Thursday afternoon to #21 Lamar Community College, CO, 8-5. For the seventh time this season, Yavapai will face fellow conference nemesis, #1 Central Arizona College, losers to #4 Salt Lake Community College, 8-3. That game will be played on Friday morning at 9:00 AM.
The Roughrider offense only managed eight hits and left numerous runners on base. Dean Friedberg was 3 for 4 with a home run, two runs scored and two runs batted in. Ashton McCoy was 2 for 3.
Zak Miller took loss throwing 4.1 innings giving up six runs on seven hits.
This season, Yavapai is 2-4 against the Vaqueros. In March, Yavapai swept a doubleheader in Casa Grande, 3-1 and 3-2. A month later in Prescott, Central Arizona swept a twinbill, 7-2 and 15-5. Last week in the NJCAA Region I Championship Series, Yavapai was swept, 12-1 and 1-0 to hand the Vaqueros the title.
The winner of tomorrow’s game will advance to play the winner of the Lamar/Salt Lake City game at 3:00 PM. The loser will be eliminated.
